This book is just so stiffly written that I found in really hard to get into. Everything is told to the reader, instead of shown. The writing is repetitive and the sentences so basic and formulaic. One example:

"Follow me," I said with a wave of my hand, motioning him to follow me as I led him into my house. I turned back to make sure he was following me and I could see him looking around the house as he followed me up the stairs.

Ugh. Follow, follow, follow, follow... There is so much of 'I did this... I did that. We went here. My phone rang. I answered my phone. Blah blah blah. She also "decides" to do everything. 'I decided to make dinner. I decided to make pasta. I decided to go downstairs and get something to eat'. I just found the writing style exhausting and boring to read.

If the plot itself had been less juvenile, I think I would have been able to handle the formulaic writing better. This just felt like another version of Twilight. Girl moves to new place, goes to new school, makes a few friends, stares at hot boy at lunch, they fall in love for seemingly no reason other than "butterflies". Evil versions of the hero come to town. They stalk the main character. The scene where she sees his abilities for the first time even takes place in the woods. I mean, it's Twilight to a T. I'm an adult who enjoys reading young adult books, but this one just seemed too juvenile for me to really enjoy. This might be more enjoyable to younger teens.

A few postives, though: even though the finished product doesn't make this story shine, the story arc of the series seems really interesting and even a little unique. The cover is lovely. Also, writing is hard, and anyone who writes and finishes a whole book and has the courage to share it deserves respect.

Archaic eBook Regan Ure Reviews

The premise behind this book was really interesting and I enjoyed the fact that it was something completely different. Unfortunately that was the only thing I really found enjoyable. While the the whole idea of the Archaic kept me reading it felt more like a chore than a pleasant read.
Ava is your typical heroine that falls head over heels for Jared instantly. And I mean instantly. Their relationship progresses at warp speed and despite her being a noon she was heavy petting like a pro after knowing him for two weeks. (No slut shaming but Ava’s whole personality was that of a well reserved person who seemed to take things slow and think them through. So when she eagerly gobbled Jared up I was skeptical.)

The writing was one of the main reasons I felt the story fell flat. There was ZERO emotion. Everything was over detailed to the point of annoyance, things were explained over and over again as if Ava was a small child and I just hated the way we read every little thing Ava did. I don’t care what you ate for dinner every night. I don’t care that you hung the towel behind the door after a shower. I don’t care that you don’t know what sort of car someone drives. It kept pulling me out of the story and I was thankful when I finished reading it.

Despite the original story and Jared being “Omg smoking hot, he looks just like a super model” I won’t be continuing the series.
I think I read this story under a different title.....what was it.....oh yeah! Twilight! Parent is moving away but daughter doesn't want to go so moves in with next closest relative in a small town, New school. She's a simple girl but sees the gorgeous guy at school and is intrigued. New friend explains that he's mysterious. She sees something unusual in the woods. She stares him and his gorgeous group of friends in the cafeteria...... I'm only on the second chapter but I hated Twilight so probably gonna quit this one since...well...It IS twilight. Honestly, did you even know which story I was actually attempting to describe above? If you said Twilight, you get a gold star! If you said Archaic, you get a gold star too.
Just finished this book last night and i absolutely loved it, even if it ended on a cliffhanger it was one that left me anxious for the next book but not disappointed; so basically it didn't leave me screaming bloody murder wishing book two was out but it left me interested to see where the story was going to go next.
Other than that the book was a surprise. I didn't expect to like it as much as i did. The characters were okay although nothing really special except for their abilities. Ava was an interesting character, i found myself liking her, then hating her, then liking her again, if only for that one stupid idea she came up with to save every one and herself. I mean i understand why she felt like she couldn't talk to Jared about it but jeez to make a decision like that...and Jared oh Jared as far as a teen male lead goes he pretty much fit the bill. Hot, sweet, protective, caring and of course a bit possessive ;) I love how he took charge when he found out what was happening and vowed to protect her and did just that. I especially love how even when Ava experienced one of her "changes" although it hurt him to see her distance herself from him, he didn't give up and was right there battling with her for her safety every step of the way.
The twist with the Hue was a great one, didn't see that coming and i loved how it played out of course, although i have a nagging feeling it's not over and he will be back for her, bigger and meaner that ever lol. One thing i hated was the "climax" towards the end of the book. I would have loved to have "seen" the fight rather than the scene just fading to black and hearing about what happened from another character. Which leads me to point two, there were times i felt like it would have been great to see the events from Jared's point of view. For example again the fight, the first time he saw/met Ava, during one of her "episodes", when she left the school to meet the Hue and of course during that scene in the clearing at the end. I mean he keeps saying that he has to protect her and he's worried etc but we don't really feel the emotions as much as we should.
Other than these little bumps it was an enjoyable read. Although i would recommend it to others, i wouldn't necessarily say its a book that's for every one. Its a book that can be a hit or a miss, depending on the reader and what they're interested in, but i would ask to give it a try yourself and see how it goes.
